Welcome to the website of the University of Virginia and National Endowment for the Humanities cooperative agreement “Strengthening Global Humanities at Virginia’s Community Colleges: An NEH Bridging Cultures at Community Colleges Project”. The UVa Asia Institute is thrilled to have had this project funded, and we look forward to working closely with our community college partners throughout the Commonwealth as we proceed. This project will commence in June 2013 and continue through June 2015. 36 faculty from five Virginia community colleges will be selected by their institutions as participants.

As this project progresses, we will post updates, reminders, and advice for participants here. In the meantime, please feel free to learn more by browsing our pages. The “About” page offers a summary of the project, information about the project director, and links to participating community colleges. The “Symposium” link will provide information about the August 2013 symposium content and schedule as it becomes available. The “Reading List” link shows the required/recommended texts (divided by country and/or discipline) that participants will read in Years 1 and 2, and the “Film List” link lists the works of cinema that will be considered in Year 2. The “Timeline” link shows an overview of the project and the proposed work plan.

This website will be expanded in the coming months as participants are selected and details become available.

If you are a Virginia community college faculty member, please check the “About” page to see if your institution is listed as a partnering institution.

Please contact the Project Director, Dr. Rachel Stauffer (staufferr@virginia.edu) with any questions or to receive a copy of the project narrative.
