August 2014 Symposium Information

Accommodations and Food
Everyone except for the PVCC faculty who are already here in Charlottesville will be staying at the Hampton Inn at 900 West Main Street.
Please check in to the Hampton Inn on the afternoon of Sunday, August 3rd (anytime after 3:00 p.m.) If you do not need lodging (and are not a faculty member at PVCC) please let Jo Watts know as soon as possible by e-mailing jbw3r@virginia.edu or calling (434) 924-7453 (leaving a voicemail is fine).
We will provide parking for PVCC faculty and will distribute parking passes at the Sunday evening reception with nametags and WiFi connection info. Parking location is TBD based on where the symposium activities will be held, which is also TBD.
Our sessions will not be located in the same space as last year. Participant evaluations indicated that while the space was nice, it was not ideal for the type of programming and the size of the group – we are looking into alternatives.
Those of you staying at the Hampton will have breakfast provided with your room, and everyone attending the symposium will have lunch provided as well.

Dinner will be on your own. Our hope is that you will mingle!

Schedule

We will begin each morning between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 5:00 p.m. This year, we begin investigating cinema as a humanistic medium in addition to cultural history, religious studies, arts, and literature, so there will also be a few film screenings in the evenings. On those days we will break from 5:00 pm until 7:0o pm for dinner and return for films around 7:30 pm.
